Dr. Melanie Babooram

Melanie is a Sydney-based clinical psychologist, AHPRA Board-Approved supervisor for clinical psychology registrars and early career psychologists, and the Director of Voyager Psychology. She is dedicated to helping people of all ages and backgrounds, through the use of evidence-based therapies. As a collaborative and compassionate therapist, Melanie finds it inspiring and rewarding to see her clients learn and grow. She is passionate about helping them to develop psychological skills and adopt beneficial strategies to overcome hardship in their lives.

  • Melanie is skilled in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Bilateral Simulation (BLS)and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Her work is also informed by brain-based and somatic approaches.

    Over her career, Melanie has worked extensively across both public health, and private sectors. She currently shares her time between Voyager Psychology and The Black Dog Institute – a not-for-profit mental health research organisation.

    Melanie has a wealth of experience assisting clients with issues such as anxiety, depression, acute and chronic stress, family and interpersonal issues, grief and bereavement, and sleep difficulties – as well as the unique challenges faced by health care workers and first responders.

    Her areas of speciality include: treatment resistant depression, complex trauma, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and chronic pain and illness management.

    Melanie is also a trained Ketamine Integration Therapist. As such, she is able to assist clients in integrating experiences arising from therapeutic use of ketamine for treatment resistant depression. She has received specialist psychedelics training from The Black Dog Institute in ketamine, Ketamine assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) and Psilocybin assisted therapy (PAT).

  • One of Melanie’s values is continuous learning, maintaining her skills and capabilities through regular attendance at workshops and conferences.

    She has had the honour of presenting her work at a number of local and international platforms, such as the International Society of Schema Therapy, and numerous webinars and podcasts at the Black Dog Institute.

    In addition to her own learning, Melanie is passionate about supporting the future of psychology in Australia. She is involved in teaching activities at the Black Dog Institute – regularly delivering presentations as part of the Institute’s Ketamine course – and actively collaborates with the Black Dog Institute’s Neuromodulation (Neurostimulation) Clinic.

    She also offers supervision sessions for early career psychologists.
